Tell me not in mournfull numbers, 나에게 슬픈 곡조로 말하지 마시오,
'Life is but an empty dream!' ' 인생은 다만 허무한 꿈이라고!'
For the soul is dead that slumbers, 왜냐하면 잠자는 영혼이 죽은 것이요,
And things are not what they seem. 사물은 겉으로 보이는 것이 아닙니다.
Life is real! life is earnest! 인생은 참되어라! 인생은 진지하여라!
And the grave is not its goal 무덤이 인생의 목표가 아닙니다
'Dust thou art,to dust returnst,' '당신은 흙이니 흙으로 돌아 가리란,'
Was not spoken of the soul. 영혼에 대하여 말한 것이 아닙니다.
Not enjoyment,and not sorrow, 즐거움도, 슬픔도,
Is our destined end or way 우리의 운명적인 끝이나 길이 아닙니다
But to act, that each tomorrow 다만 내일이 오늘 보다 낫도록
Find us farther than today. 행동할 뿐입니다.
Art is long, and time is fleeting, 예술은 길고,세월은 날아가며
And our hearts,though stout and brave, 우리의 심장이 건장하고 담대해도,
Still,like muffled drums,are beating 덮어씌운 북과 같이
Funeral marches to the grave. 무덤을 향하여 장송곡을 치고 있습니다.
In the world's broad field of battle, 이 세상의 넓은 전장에서,
In the bivouac of Life, 인생의 야영지에서
Be not like dumb, driven cattle! 말못하고 끌려가는 가축이 되지 말고!
Be a hero in the strife! 전투에서 영웅이 되시오!
Trust no future, howe'er pleasant, 아무리 즐거워도 미래를 믿지 말고,
Let the dead past bury its dead, 죽은 과거는 그의 죽음을 묻게 하고,
Act, act in the living present, 살아있는 현재에서 행동,행동하시오,
Heart within,and God o,erhead! 안으로는 용기,위로는 하나님을 모시고!
Lives of great men all remind us, 우리 주위의 위인들의 삶이 깨우쳐줍니다,
We can make our lives sublime, 우리도 우리의 삶을 고상하게 만들어,
And, departing,leave behind us 떠날 때 우리 뒤에 남겨 둘 수 있네
Footprints on the sands of time 시간의 모래 위에 발자국을
Footprints,that perhaps another, 아마도 다른 사람이,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main, 인생의 장엄한 바다를 항해하다가,
A brother, forlorn and shipwrecked 외로이 난파당한 한 형제가,
Seeing,shall take heart again. 보고서 다시 용기를 가질 발자국을.
Let us, then,be up and doing, 우리 함께 일어나서 행동하세,
With a heart for any fate 어떠한 운명에도 용기를 가지고
Still achieving, still persuing, 계속 성취하며,계속 추구하면서
Learn to labor and to wait. 노력하고 기다리는 것을 배웁시다.
