미국 필라델피아 태생의 작곡가 앨리스 호손이
작곡한 여성 2부 합창곡. 혼성 2부 합창으로 연주하기도 함.

앨리스 호손(Alice Hawthorne, 1827~1902)
어릴 때부터 바이올린을 배웠고 아마추어 작곡가로 명성을 얻음.
직업은 교사. 대표작 여성 2중창곡인〈희망의 속삭임〉은 50년 동안
2천만 부의 악보가 팔렸다고 함.
본명이 Septimus Winner인 Alice Hawthorne은
1827년 5월11일 미국, 필라델피아에서 아버지 Joseph Eastburn Winner
어머니 Mary Ann Hawthorne 사이에서 출생. 1847년 11월25일
'Hannah Jane Guyer'와 결혼.
1902년 11월2일(75세) 필라델피아에서 생을 마감함.
그는 곡을 발표할 때 본명인 Septimus Winner 외에 주로 필명(筆名)인
'Alice Hawthorne', 'Percy Guyer', 'Mark Mason', 'Apsley Street',
'Paul Stenton'을 사용했는데 그의 가족들의 이름에서 인용해 사용한 것으로
추측됨
